I have used various guitar stands and single guitar mounts over the years, mostly three legged floor stands. I wanted to go with a wall hangers to keep the floor open and reduce clutter. I’ve used individual wall mounts in the past, but once again it was time to do some research. I decided to go with the String Swing Multiple Guitar Wall Rack, as well as a few of their single guitar wall mounts.
Overall Impression: The String Swing Wall Rack is a top-tier choice for guitarists looking to safely and stylishly hang and display multiple guitars. Its combination of solid construction, instrument protection and elegant design making it a valuable addition to any room or studio. The only consideration is the spacing for guitars with wider bodies, but overall, it’s a highly recommended product for its intended purpose.
Build Quality and Design: The SW5RL-B-K is crafted with solid metal construction, ensuring durability and stability for your instruments. It comes in a variety of colors, making it not only functional, but also a decorative piece in any room. The rack is designed to hang up to five guitars, making it an ideal choice for collectors or musicians with multiple instruments.
The swivel heads accommodates different guitar necks and aids in easy access without bumping them into each others. Versatile guitar positioning allows guitars to be positioned at different angles for easy access and display flexibility. Some readers will probably notice I only have 4 guitars on each rack. This was a personal choice, allowing for me to show off the guitars a bit more, while also giving me more spaces so I don’t bump them into each other.
Fortunately, I there aren’t any quality issues with my racks. However, I have read where others had challenges installing the end caps. Others have also noted issues with the clips breaking during installation.
The other nice thing about String Swing products is they are made in the USA. If something isn’t made in the US, it doesn’t mean I won’t buy it. However, all other things being similar it can be a factor in my final decision.
Protection for Instruments: One of standout features of this rack for me is protecting the guitars. The yokes are padded with a special foam that’s gentle on the guitar finishes, preventing scratches or damage. This is particularly important for those with high-end or vintage guitars where maintaining the finish is crucial.
More importantly, the guitars are out of the way. No more worrying about tripping over floor stands, or knocking the stand over entirely.
Ease of Installation: As a DIYer I find the rack to be user-friendly when it comes to installation. It comes with all the necessary hardware and a relatively clear set of instructions. Most users seem to find the installation process straightforward and the rack can be securely mounted on various wall types.
You should definitely take some extra time with the installation to make sure the rack is securely attached to your wall studs. I used some left over screws from other home projects that were a bit longer. Some of my guitars are heavy and I do not want to risk them falling off the wall.
For some buyers the installation is difficult. This is due to somewhat vague instructions, which look like they have been updated since my original purchase. The installation also requires tools and a moderate amount of effort, including drilling and finding studs. For me this was especially easy since I was renovating the room and the opposite side of the wall was open. At the time of this writing it looks like they also provide a screw guide, which should also help with installation.
Space Efficiency: For those with limited space, the SW5RL-K is a great solution. It organizes guitars in a vertical fashion, freeing up floor space, which is especially beneficial in smaller rooms or studios. The rack can be mounted higher off the floor, away from kids and pets as an added level of security and peace of mind.
Adaptability: The rack is versatile enough to accommodate various types of guitars (electric, acoustic, bass). However, it’s important to note the spacing; guitars with wider bodies might fit snugly, which could be a concern for some users.
Value for Money: While the price point may be higher than some basic racks, the quality, durability and the brand’s reputation for customer service justified the investment for me. It’s a long-term solution for guitar storage and display. Donner and SNIGJAT make similar wall racks, but their reviews aren’t as good and String Swing’s products are made in the USA, which I liked.
Excellent Customer Support: I personally haven’t needed to use customer support. Others do note that String Swing’s customer service is exceptional. They seem to take pride in timely, helpful responses to customer inquiries and providing replacement parts free of charge.
